1. Introduction
File Arbor ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our desktop application and website.
2. Information We Collect
Desktop Application
The File Arbor desktop application organizes your files entirely on your computer. Your files, their names and contents, the folders you choose, the values read from your documents and the names you give your rules never leave your device.
To learn how the app is used and to fix problems, the app sends anonymous usage statistics:
- A random identifier created the first time the app starts and stored only on your computer. It is not linked to your name, email address, license key or hardware ID.
- The app's version, your operating system and its version, the processor type, how the app was installed (installer, Microsoft Store, portable or Mac), the app's language and your plan (Free or Pro).
- Events, such as: the app was installed, updated or opened, or its window was reopened; a folder was added or its mode changed; rules were chosen for a folder (only how many, and how many files they would organize); a rule was created or changed (only what kind of rule it is — its action and how many conditions and values it uses); a run finished (only how many files were moved, renamed, left as they were or failed, how long it took, and why values could not be read, as codes); a Pro feature prompt was shown or used; a notice about files waiting to be organized was shown or opened (only how many files); a setting such as launching at startup or notifications was turned on or off; a license activation succeeded or failed (as an error code); an error or crash occurred (only the kind of error and where in the app's own code it happened; after a graphics crash, also the graphics card's maker and driver version).
We never send file names, folder paths, document contents, values read from documents, rule or folder names, your license key, or the text of error messages.
The statistics are processed by PostHog in the European Union and are used only to improve File Arbor, which is our legitimate interest. They cannot be linked to your account. As with any connection over the internet, PostHog receives your IP address; it is not used to determine your location.
Website & License Management
When you create an account or purchase a license, we collect:
- Email address
- Name (optional)
- Payment information (processed by Polar.sh)
- Hardware ID for license activation
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Process license purchases
- Verify license activations
- Send important updates about your license
- Provide customer support
- Understand how the desktop app is used and fix its errors (anonymous usage statistics)
4. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information. Your password is hashed, and all data is transmitted over encrypted connections.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Polar.sh for payment processing
- Google OAuth for authentication (optional)
- Google Analytics for anonymous website statistics
- Microsoft Clarity for anonymous usage analytics (heatmaps and session recordings)
- PostHog (European Union) for anonymous usage statistics from the desktop app
