Real messages from real users
A few notes from people who stopped sorting files by hand.
Really pretty UI, quick and nice support and uncomplicated. File automation never felt that good with other apps.
File Arbor is going from strength to strength. It really is a wonderful tool and I’m a big fan of what you’ve built.
I set up three rules on a Sunday evening and my Downloads folder has taken care of itself ever since. It is the first thing I install on a new machine.
Scanned invoices, client photos and contracts all land where they belong now. Setting up the rules took ten minutes and it saves me an hour every week.
I tested every program on the list and even bought an old Mac just to run Hazel. Then I heard about File Arbor and was hooked straight away. The price-performance ratio is simply top class, it should come as standard on every PC.
Everything you need to stay organized
Powerful features that make file organization effortless and automatic.
Rename files
Give files a consistent name where they are, or while moving them: the file date, parts of the original name, fixed text, and in Pro a value read from the document. On every plan.
Values from documents
Pro reads a date, a number or a total from each PDF, Word file or scan and puts it in the file name or folder. Click the value once on a sample document to teach it; scans and photos are read on your computer.
Automatic folder structures
Build a destination from tokens — the date, filename parts, a photo's camera and capture date, or (Pro) a value read from inside a document — and File Arbor creates and splits the subfolders for every file. Since 1.3.0, a rule can rename the file too.
Exclude folders & files
Pick specific folders or individual files to skip. They stay untouched in every mode — manual, automatic, and scheduled.
Run Shell Commands
Trigger any shell command or script when a rule matches — convert, compress, upload, notify, or chain your own tools into the workflow.
Action History
Review everything FileArbor has done, grouped by action type — moved, renamed, deleted, or command runs — and undo a single move or rename straight from it. A clear audit trail of every automation.
Subfolder Scanning
Reach files inside nested folders. Flatten everything into one place or preserve the original structure — your call.
Scheduled Runs
Run organize automatically on a schedule — every Monday at 9 AM, weekdays at noon, or any day/time combo you pick.
Conditional Organize
Combine multiple conditions in a single rule. Match files where the name starts with 'IMG' AND the extension is .jpeg — no more one filter per rule.
Auto Mode
Real-time file organization. Files are sorted automatically as soon as they appear.
Smart Rules
Create rules based on extension, name patterns, file size, date, or the text inside documents, scans included. Full regex support.
Quick Rules
One-click presets for common file types: Images, Documents, Videos, Music, and more.
Multi-folder Watch
Monitor multiple directories simultaneously. Downloads, Desktop, Documents - all covered.
Cross-platform
Native support for both Windows and macOS. Same great experience everywhere.
Privacy-first
Works offline. Your files never leave your computer — no cloud. The app sends only anonymous usage statistics, never your files' names or contents.
